Thanks to a large grant procured through the efforts of Spring City Deputy Treasurer and Horseshoe Irrigation Board Member, Michael F Black, the Spring City Watershed Project is finally happening! After more than a century of waiting we have finally got clearance and funding! The Spring City Watershed Project is a plan to fulfill several needs at once. The major goals of the project are to, 1) protect the city against flood water even in a 100 year flood crisis in both of the major canyons that supply us with runoff water, and 2) provide water storage for irrigation purposes on the Freeman Allred property owned by the irrigation company East of town. Horseshoe Irrigation Company has had the right to store water for many years but has never had the funds to build the storage facility. Now Spring City, in conjunction with Horseshoe Irrigation, will also be able to take advantage of the water use rights that we have maintained on the East side of the mountain but have never been able to use. And, as an added bonus, we will be able to use the water storage facility as a recreation area!
